It must be hard for Elin Nordegren to decide what’s worse: being known as the wife Tiger Woods cheated on more times that you can shake a gold club at — or not being noticed at all.
In Miami over the weekend, Woods’ 32-year-old ex-wife went barely noticed at a pair of restaurants and had to have pals drop a do-you-know-who-I-am to get her into a nightclub where she was quickly given the boot.
Nordegren’s weekend in obscurity started with the ex-model having dinner with two of her siblings and Swedish hockey player Douglas Murray at Mr. Chow in Miami Friday. In late July, Murray attempted to hush rumors that he and Nordegren were a pair by telling the Swedish tabloid Expressen, “We are not dating and we have never dated.” But at Mr. Chow, there were few prying eyes or wagging tongues.
A Confidenti@l source says, “Nobody recognizes her — she was only a celebrity because she married Tiger Woods.”
After dinner, Nordegren led a small group to Hyde nightclub where they were initially refused entry.
“Someone in the entourage said, ‘This is Elin, Tiger Woods’ wife,’ so only after they dropped the name, they let her in,” says a Confidenti@l source in Miami. According to our snitch, Nordegren and her gang found their way to a poolside cabana, but were soon after asked to leave because it was 2 a.m. and the venue was about to close.
On Saturday night, our spies spotted Nordegren out on the town again, this time dining at Casa Tua with a group of pals including Nicole Kuehne, who used to be married to professional golfer and Woods’ contemporary Hank Kuehne. “Nobody recognized them,” says our source.
It’s not like Nordegren has nowhere to spend her post-Woods years. After numerous women came forth alleging they’d putted around with her husband after their 2004 wedding, Nordegren walked away with a $100 million settlement in the summer of 2010 that she seems to be putting to good use. One year ago, she demolished a $12 million home she’d purchased in North Palm Beach, Fla. Construction is well underway on the new beachfront estate, which already has a Swedish flag flying over it.
A-ROD: MINOTAUR’S A MYTH
Miami’s Art Basel celebration ended yesterday, but not before Yankees millionaire benchwarmer Alex Rodriguez attempted to put a longstanding rumor to sleep: that he has two rather tacky, if not shamefully egomaniacal, paintings above his bed.
“No, I do not have a painting of my upper body on a Minotaur,” he told Confidenti@l at a toy drive over the weekend. “I don’t know where they get that stuff.”
The story, first reported by Us Weekly in 2009, had a former fling of A-Rod’s claiming two “centaur” paintings hung above the third baseman’s bed. But Rodriguez’s current girlfriend, former pro wrestler Torrie Wilson, told us she’s never seen any such artwork in A-Rod’s pad. Rodriguez hosted a couple parties in his Miami home during the festival, where he showed off his classic Warhols and Basquiats as well as contemporary works by Adam McEwen and Jayson Musson.
